If you’ve been struggling to kick the sugar habit after lockdown, a new pill might be the one for you.
Scientists at Massey University have been researching the effectiveness of a product available in the US called Sweet Kick.
They are mints which claim to suppress sweetness in sugary foods – and it turns out, they’re the real deal.
Associate Professor Ajmol Ali from Massey’s School of Sport, Exercise and Nutrition told Mike Hosking that the mint comes from a vine available in India.
“Right now it makes sense. If you think Covid-19’s enemy number one, and for many people right now, the sweets in the pantry is a close second, so that’s part of the interest in the product right now.”
He says that it affects the tastebuds, and it suppresses that taste receptors to sweetness that heightens the other tastes.
Ali says that the product is available in many outlets, and it is looking to expand.
